A Self Narrative Memory Of Water By Emmi Itaranta

What exactly is a self-narrative or in other words an identity? Could it be described as someone’s life story and their individual uniqueness? A self-narrative is a broad topic that has more meaning just one. In order to get a wide range of knowledge about a self-narrative one has to understand the different self-making narratives. In the stories Memory of Water by Emmi Itaranta, Being Prey by Val Plumwood, Nightmare by Malcolm X, express self-making narratives by stating how their experiences have transformed their self-identities originally. This occurs when External and internal beliefs are altered, turning points in our lives occur, creating a self-narrative full of distinctiveness. In Nightmare by Malcolm X, Malcolm experienced his first turning point of his young life at the age of 6, when his father was mu rdered. Due to this occurrence Malcolm’s perspective on the society started to shift as he started to be severely impacted by this event in his life. The first instance at which made the biggest impact was when the second Insurance company denied the families claim. They stated that Reverend committed suicide as a way to get out of paying for a black man’s death. Wilfred Malcolm’s older brother quite school to get a job to start helping support the family. Malcolm thought â€Å"I think he had the sense to see, when, the rest of us didn’t what was in the wind for us† (94). At this point is when a chain reaction of multiple bad events started to occur. They got to the point where they had run out of money from the policy, so the mother had to try to actually keep a job to have an income. This did not last as she could not hold a job where ever it was due to the employer finding out that she mixed, they would fire her when they found that out. Malcolm started to steal food around stores due to not having food to eat which ended up getting him in trouble. Due to this Child services came to take the children and went after Malcolm first due to his stealing in
